9 protesters arrested at Sen. Manchin’s Charleston office

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) - UPDATE 10/2/18 @ 1:34 p.m.
Nine protesters were arrested at U.S. Sen. Joe Manchin’s office in Charleston early Tuesday morning.

Charleston Police Lt. Autumn Davis said officers responded to the office just after midnight Tuesday for a trespassing complaint. Protesters gathered at the office earlier in the day, both inside and outside of the building. They had signs urging the Democratic senator to vote no on confirming U.S. Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.

Police say the protesters were asked to leave, but most refused. Two left after police told the group they could be charged with criminal trespassing. Nine remained and were arrested for trespassing. Police escorted them off the property.

The protesters were issued summonses to appear in court and were released at the scene.
