I haven’t toted out this old chestnut in a while:

If you want to defend your home and family with a gun, then I guess that is your good right, and nobody is coming after those rights.

But if you want to use a gun in a public-shooter setting, you need nerves of steel, years of experience and training, along with excellent situational awareness.

That is not a skills set you can simply purchase over the counter at your neighborhood sporting goods store.

I’m all for the castle doctrine - it’s your home. But SYG laws extend that to any public space, and basically give people the right to murder and retcon an excuse that it was done in self defense. We saw that with Zimmerman and we see it elsewhere.

It’s bad law and policy. Public carry of firearms should be held to a much higher standard.
