To be pedantic, this whole round of violence kicked off when Israel assassinated a senior Hamas official. They chose to kick this hornets nest. Whether that was a was good idea remains to be seen.

Ever since Israel withdrew from Gaza, rockets attacks on Israeli civilians have increased, not decreased.
