I thought “Stranger in a Strange Land” was kind of amazing, but the ridiculous and pervasive sexism ruined everything. Later I learned that Heinlein was a foul sexist dickbag and that made me never want to read another book he wrote.
Ray Bradbury is my fave Science Fiction writer. And he wrote one of my all-time favorite short story compilations—eh OK, novel, “Dandelion Wine”.
Heinlein could be good but he needed a very firm editor. The later the books, the worse it got with only a handful of exceptions. I have a soft spot for Glory Road & Job though they have their share of issues
I’ll also take The Martian Chronicles over Dandelion Wine. :)
My personal favorite remains LMB - Lois McMaster Bujold and her works. Space opera, mystery, regency romance, fantasy and pretty hard SF :D
