Carrie Rodriguez mentions the way Texans insist on pronouncing ‘lano’ estacado. I still remember coming to Houston from a few years in Venezuela and getting sternly corrected on San Felipe road being pronounced San Fill-a-pee.
There’s an auto body shop here in Austin called Ellis & Salazar. The name Salazar is pronounced “Suh-LAY-zar”. It drives me nuts every time. There’s also a street named Manchaca that everyone in this town pronounces “Man-chack”. ARGH.
