Paid my property taxes today. They were one day late (dammit), so I had to pay a penalty.

The penalty was six cents.

That seems hardly worth collecting.

My property taxes are right at $11,000/year. We don’t have a State income tax, so municipalities are on the hook for school funding, since Texas doesn’t fund public schools to any large degree. Maybe 45% through state funds. Locals have to pick up the rest. We also have a 8.25% sales tax.

Horribly regressive.
