People really are deluding themselves that #CancunTed will affect his political calculus. It won’t, not one iota. Some Democrats might make a stink for a couple of news cycles. But let’s face it, the average American has the attention span of a gnat politically.

I don’t think anybody’s really convinced that his career is over. Political scandals only destroy the careers of Democrats, while Republicans generally have all the career resiliency of a cockroach. But I’m sure Josh Hawley is taking notes, as are any Texans who might consider challenging him for either the presidency or his Senate seat. He won’t be forced to resign, but his hope to rise above the Senate may be stymied for the foreseeable future.
