The AP story about homeschooling and creationists texts is making its way through the blogosphere… and one place to start is the blog of one of the authors of the text described in the AP article:

Updates on the AP Article

Jay Wile is complaining about the AP truncating one of his statements. He is a full-on creationist (see the links on his blog.)

He also has an email from a faithful user of his texts raving about how her son was taught in a creationist home and now after two years of college is a 4.0 student studying mechanical engineering. Ergo, creationist homeschooling leads to brilliant college students.

Besides the fallaciousness of that whole approach (hasty generalization), it misses the point. No one said that creationists could not do well in mechanical engineering. Dr. Coyne and others who are worried about this issue point out that it is the biological sciences for which the creationists are not only ill prepared but also at odds.
