re: #103 researchok

I actually like Obama.

I certainly don’t agree with all his policies (mostly economic) but I think the guy is a breath of fresh air.

Unfortunately, he’s been saddled by a House and Senate rife with back pocket deals, a large part of a base who won’t be happy unless there is capitalist blood running in the streets and an opposition who would argue the sky is green if Obama declared his firm conviction it were blue.

Still, there seems no political will demanding good governance (I know, I’m droning on). I simply do not understand a strategy focused on demonizing the other guy (who has no political influence whatsoever). How does that make for better policy and better government? That’s like saying, “Vote for us. We’re pretty bad, but the other guys are worse”. It seems to me that if the team Obama strategies were to focus on themselves and what they can accomplish, they’d be a shoo in. Obama is the president of all Americans, not just Democrats and liberals. The Move On crowd no more owns the Democrats than the Tea party owns the GOP.

This election is Obama’s to lose- every poll shows a high personal appeal level. His weaknesses are in the perception that he isn’t up to the job. Exchange the lunatic base segment with real middle of the road moderates, smack an ineffectual Congress around and demand they do their job in a responsible way and he’ll win by a landslide.

You want him to “smack an ineffectual Congress around”? If he did anything close to that you’d be screaming about heavy handed chicago style politics. You already think he focuses on demonizing rather then governing. His problem is he’s been governing rather then politicking.
