It’s not that I don’t find the cartoon funny, but its overall thesis of “The GOP is willingly destroying itself” just isn’t true. It’s not even close. It’s like when Bob Cessca says on his podcast “Trump only makes things worse for Trump” ad nauseam. This mindset assumes facts not evidence.

I have yet to see any evidence that either Trump or the GOP have truly destroyed themselves. Trump may have lost the election, but he literally tried to instigate a coup and will most likely go to his grave getting away with it. Along with all the other crimes he’s committed over the decades. He still has money and he still controls the GOP.

How the fuck is that making things worse for himself?

Same with the GOP. They may not have literal control of the government, but they tend to get what they want (no taxes on the rich, restricted abortion, disenfranchising minority voters, etc). They’re on the verge of realizing Karl Rove’s permanent majority, twenty years later.

It’s a funny cartoon but this idea that the GOP is on its way out relies heavily on our idiot independent voters doing the right thing. Which is a fucking fantasy.
