I like all that. I make saukraut sometimes. It’s much better than store bought. My grandmother used to give me liverwurst spread on pumpernickel bread when I was 5 or 6 years old. Even young I loved it. It must have been something she brought over from England because I didn’t know anyone else whose parents or grandparents made that for them.
Alton Brown did a episode of Good Eats on pickled stuff like sauerkraut; he posited that most Americans hate sauerkraut because they get it from a can and that homemade sauerkraut (or even commercially packed sauerkraut in jars) usually tastes much better.
