Asking the Defense Department to come up with a plan isn’t a plan Donald Trump. That’s simply asking them to do what they’ve been doing all along - updating/modifying existing plans, offering alternatives, and then the President chooses from the various options presented.

But Trump would know that if he bothered to pay attention in his security briefings.

His supporters wont care though. They think he’s coming down from Sinai with a new plan that will defeat IS (and ignore that the current plan/operations have significantly reduced IS control on the map, and that further reductions can occur based on how we interact with Assad, Russia, Turkey, and Iraq, which remain areas of operation for IS). It isn’t as though we can simply carpet bomb or nuke IS to eliminate the problem, not when they remain embedded in civilian populations, or have lone wolf cells elsewhere.

Trump simply doesn’t have a plan. Only the platitudes of offering up vaporware.
