Saying all reporter interviews should be confrontational jousts is like saying prosecutors should only get information by subpoena or chefs should only cut things with a meat cleaver. Meat cleavers and subpoenas are very important tools but they are not the only tools.

If your job is just to let them lie and not call them on it, then why do we need you? Let them issue press releases if that’s all you’re good for.

These are special rules that apply particularly to Trump and occasionally to other white males in power. They don’t apply to women or minorities. Think of how the NYT functioned as a cheerleader for the Iraq invasion.
