Pushing 80 ain’t gonna help him any, either. Running a national campaign takes a certain amount of stamina that just simply isn’t there after a certain age. It’s bound to show, probably at an inopportune moment.
And there’s simply the novelty factor. Would John Anderson have had much appeal in 1984? Ross Perot in 1996?
Perot actually did run again in 1996 and got 8.4% of the vote from folks who weren’t paying attention.
