McConnell may be a weasel, but his statement that he supports the Mueller investigation is still important. It suggests that the GOP leadership is not going to just roll over and play dead if Trump tries any shenanigans to torpedo the investigation. It’s an old-school politician’s signal to Trump that he would not have the support of the leadership if Trump interferes with Mueller. Trump, being the dolt that he is, will not understand the signal and will probably do what he wants anyway.
