This is worth a read. A straight man and woman went to the Pittsburgh Pride parade sporting “free dad hugs” and “free mom hugs” shirts.
They were swamped by hundreds of people getting hugs, a huge number of which were LGBT+ people who had been disowned by parents or other family members.
His story is of righteous outrage and sadness.
Shit. I started crying even before I clicked into the story. I haven’t been to Twin City Pride for about 10 years. I’ve been thinking I should go this year. I was out to my parents and they were OK with it, but I was afraid to tell them until I was in my 30’s. When you out yourself to someone, you sometimes have to go into it thinking that this may be the last time you ever see them…
