So, it’s either capable of waiting out the immune reaction in isolated pockets of the body or, more horrifyingly, it’s actually inserts itself into another type of cell from the one it normally replicates in and goes dormant, waiting out the body’s immune response there. For an analogy imagine chicken pox turning into shingles played on fast forward, possibly because it’s a novel virus.

Either way, not good news and it really demonstrates how important it is to stomp on new diseases quickly and how much crucial time we lost.

Wouldn’t another possibility be that the tests are giving false negatives when the viral load is low enough, so that the person was never really fully recovered in the first place?
