I hate to get grim about this…but what are we supposed to expect from our own democracy at this point? We as a people cannot even reliably pass even a cursory exam on basic civics or American history. Huge swathes of the population are being badly mislead on simple facts related to our Revolution and formation of the Constitution in an era when correct information has never been easier to come by.

We habitually elect wastrels, scoundrels, rakes, grafters and imbeciles to represent us, and then reward their lies after they work to undermine and subvert the very institutions we sent them to repair.

We have our democracy only as long as we are clever enought to keep it. I am not particularly bullish on the odds, to be perfectly frank.
