Spec Ops wouldn’t have good enough odds of working, Assad’s got too much firepower near to hand. If the SF force got got bogged down, even for a short time, reinforcements would arrive and swamp them through sheer weight of numbers.
Better a surprise bombing attack by B-2s. That would have a much lower risk level.
That’s assuming you can get good intel on where he is at the moment and it’s a place where even a precision strike won’t cause a lot of collateral damage. And trying one and “missing” onto a civilian target would simply be handing Assad (and Iran?) a massive propaganda coup.
