I realize this may be an unpopular position, but this is the sort of thing that thrives on anonymous power. They can largely do what they want, because they’re behind the solid doors, and they have people largely at their mercy. And clearly, a lot of them have just been waiting for this.

And once they’ve succeeded in making international travel to the US so toxic that no one wants to come here, they can move on to making domestic travel suck. I wonder what the airline industry is doing behind the scenes to protect their livelihood?
