Interesting video piece from AJ
MEK is a radical Marxist/Islamist group that was a notably violent participant in the revolution against the Shah in the 1970s. It lost out in the subsequent power struggles, left the country, and re-branded itself as a kind of exile opposition group. At one time, they were based in Iraq and received support from Saddam Hussein. They were placed on the US list of terrorist organizations during the Clinton administration but were removed under Bush in 2003. They are unequivocally condemned by both the Islamic government and by exiled royalist supporters of the former Shah’s family, surely a unique distinction. Yet, both John Bolton and Rudy Giuliani have taken thousands of dollars in speaker’s fees from this gang, and Bolton remains an outspoken advocate.
