One thing I recall about JC Penney was that I invariably bought my underwear and socks there, mostly because they were of generally high quality and reasonably priced. Here, I do the same at Marks & Spencer - very high quality* and not too expensive.

*=seriously, M&S underwear and socks could probably survive the hypocenter of an 800-kiloton nuke

M&S also always the place to pick up a nice cardigan sweater!
