After months in-country we found out that our ravenous 12 and 14 yr olds were browsing every street fry-stand between the on-post school and our apartment.

Well, I suppose that once you got over the trots from the change in food, your stomach would adjust to the local fare? I can see if you bought fresh stuff and washed it well, you might be okay if everything was cooked thoroughly.
