In the East, it seems like that too but then again we have plenty of bright blue suburbs in the east. I live in the bright red part of a purple county in an increasingly blue state.

There’s a few red suburbs (I have the …joy… of living in one of the more red-leaning ones in SV) - particularly down south, where Orange County and some of the areas around the military bases comes to mind, but the Central Valley in particular in CA is hardcore Republican. It really emphasizes the divide.
