What scares me is I’m really beginning to think that the “how you think” matters more than “what you think” because people don’t admit that we’re emotional, impressionistic, social learners, and heuristic thinkers. If they lack a skeptic’s toolkit, you can eventually spin someone around such that they won’t even notice the change from A is A to A is B.

Hence the power of narcissists and other pathological manipulators to keep people believing even as the belief system changes shape.

Now consider how large a part of modern understanding of the self is about the solidity of beliefs, and their atom-like role as the foundation for morals, government, et cetera.
