Yep, water bugs and there was a petition at one time in the prison in Maine to limit how often they could be served it. “Cruel and unusual” don’t you know?
I think chicken was conversely seen as more luxurious. Hoover’s 1928 slogan was a “Chicken in every pot.” Food is funny. It amuses me how caviar became the food of the wealthy elite.
