Looking at all the popular vote counts of every president since I was born (Eisenhower), the only presidents who won the election but didn’t win the popular vote were both Republicans (GW Bush’s first election, and Donald Trump).

That’s the structural disadvantage built into the Electoral College (which could be mostly eliminated by expanding the number of seats in the US House, which doesn’t require a constitutional amendment).
