You know who’s really going to be pissed off at Trump over ending the EV tax credit? Ford. The Focus and Fusion evs don’t stand out right now and aren’t selling in big numbers, so they’re planning to roll out a performance SUV model in 2020. Yanking the tax credit fucks them over royally. Same with Porsche, BMW, VW and Mercedes Benz, who have anemic sales and/or models in the pipeline and haven’t yet come close to maximizing their existing credits under the law.

As a Chevy Bolt owner, the other thing this maneuver does is promote the perception that EVs aren’t a viable, long-term strategy.

I deal with enough people who think my car conks out after 20 miles or 18 minutes, whichever comes first. The federal government washing their hands of trying to help EVs to market just reinforces the misplaced notion that these things are not viable, daily-use vehicles

Frank hits the nail on the head: the clock may be running out for Chevy, Tesla, and Nissan regarding the rebates, but there’s plenty of other car companies who haven’t scratched the surface yet.

In essence, this is Trump trying to set back EV adoption in the US by a few decades, if not permanently.
