This article argues that we shouldn’t try to identify alien signals from space because it might be cosmic malware giving us directions to , in effect, create Skynet. At first I considered this extremely implausible because it couldn’t benefit the senders in any way. Then I thought, unless, of course, the alien civilization is an AI, and this would be a way for it to spread itself across interstellar space by directing organic civilizations to propagate the AI.

When the signals translate out into asking for Earth’s banking information, we’ll know something’s amiss….
