Now, that’s just an incorrect assessment of the mind-set of those who oppose gay marriage, but have no problem with civil unions.

My opposition to gay marriage has to do with the fact that for eons, marriage has meant a union between a man and a woman, and in most cultures, there is some religious meaning to the concept of “marriage” that would not be reflected in a union of two gay people.

Why would it be such an awful thing to contemplate the concept of the state granting “civil unions” to couples of any persuasion, which satisfy the legal reguriements currently in play for “marriage”, with “marriage” reserved for those unions blessed by a faith institution in tandem with a the couple’s state-recognized civil union?
