I’m against bringing order to English in the manner of the French Academy or its German equivalent.
English spelling is the perfect mix of arbitrary anarchy and staid, “that’s the way it is” tradition. Many words show their etymological history in their orthography.
At some point the Post Office declared that all American town names ending in -borough be spelled “-boro”. Screw that.
