re: #125 Obdicut

There’s also penicillin, which was extremely important in being able to treat many of the STDs. The political history of Europe was massively affected by syphilis, and penicillin changed the hell out of sex.

(nod) But penicillin only removed the consequence from men.

Let’s face it, prior to the pill biology was destiny. As a woman your choices were abstain forever (or at least till menopause) or spend a large part of your life being a mother. Those who took the former route were unusual.

Today, abstention is not required. No need for tansy or pennyroyal in the garden. [both, though very poisonous, were used in teas due to their abortifacient effects; cohosh, angelica, and parsley were also used.] A woman is free from the risks and costs of sex unless/until she is ready for them.
