To be fair about the Lincoln thing, there WAS a conspiracy.

Vice President Johnson, and Secretary Seward very well could have died that night. Lafayette S. Foster then would have become President.

There was. People start mocking though when people say that knowledge of the plot went all the way up to Davis and there were even some who claimed the Catholic Church was behind it since Booth and some of the other conspirators were Catholics.
