I’ll make a rash prediction: The religious right is at the height of its power just now, but it will collapse with breathtaking speed after this election year. Within a few years no politician with serious electoral aspirations outside the hard-core Bible belt will willingly admit to having consorted with the likes of Bryan Fischer and David Barton. A close analogy would be the amazing collapse of the “Second” Ku Klux Klan in the late 20s. This organization went from millions of members and complete control of several states in 1925 to a marginalized laughingstock by 1929.
