I was thinking the same thing. Take the guns out of the equation for a minute. What parents would take kindly at ALL to a bunch of guys hanging out watching school kids just off school property? In my town the cops would be all over them, all it would take is one phone call to 911. And I live in a really conservative area where we have a lot of overarmed preppers and the like.
