Despite that, the state legislatures are pushing ahead with an anti abortion agenda that is more invasive than ever. In Texas:

Republican Gov. Rick Perry has told lawmakers that he expects more anti-abortion laws during the 2013 session to work toward his goal “to make abortion at any stage a thing of the past.” Anti-abortion activists have pledged to use every legal means possible to make obtaining abortions difficult, if not impossible, to obtain.

The latest tact is to pass fetal-pain bills, which is apparently based on flawed science (go figure).

Virginia is considering a group of anti-abortion bills, including one proffered by State Sen. Thomas A. Garrett (R-Lynchburg) that would would:

… prevent Medicaid from subsidizing abortion services for low-income women in cases “in which a physician certifies … that the fetus would be born with a gross and totally incapacitating physical deformity or mental deficiency.” Women who currently receive Medicaid in Virginia have abortion coverage in cases of rape, incest, severe fetal abnormalities, or when the life of the mother is in danger.

Nationwide, there’s been an increase in regulation as well - mostly with the intent of so limiting the practice that it would be near impossible for some to actually obtain a legal abortion or to make it impractical by requiring multiple visits/consultations, or invasive ultrasounds.
