I am counting on the Chinese to be the grownups here and keep the U.S. from fucking everybody on earth to death.

The Chinese economy depends on Americans (and others) buying products made in China. Maintaining a stable world economy benefits the Chinese politically and financially, because the Communist Party needs a happy, well fed and complacent populace for it to stay in power without too much drama. But China will orchestrate things to its own advantage, not the USA’s. IOW, China may end up being the #1 world power.
