I’m leery of trying too hard to get them back. If we peeled off 1% nation wide, we’d have won. Hell, if we’d peeled off less than 1% in 3 states, we’d have won.

But for me, the biggest thing is that I simply cannot understand how anyone could believe a word he says. He is an absolutely transparent con man, and his campaign speeches were chock full of obvious bullshit. I have no idea how to appeal to someone so gullible that they looked at him and thought, “Yeah, lets give him a chance!”

Many people are really not plugged in; they aren’t listening to the news carefully; their only exposure may have been attending a speech or watching one provided free of charge by our helpful media. I hate to be a broken record but I listened to part of one during the primaries and could understand the attraction his words would have to those who were struggling — there was nothing racist about these particular words but rather the same type of appeal that Bernie had to this group. Obviously there were other speeches that appealed to the darkest instincts of potential voters.

Again, we don’t have an answer to those who want the old jobs that are never returning. When I was much younger, many professionals were contemptuous of factory workers who lost their jobs to offshoring. Now many of us professionals are facing the same fate. The party that can figure out what to do in a world where the deadly duo of technology and globalization are eliminating well-paid jobs will be the party that ultimately triumphs, assuming we survive this interlude with Trump..
