I remember the Chicago winter 1978-79 with the heavy blizzards and Mayor Bilandic’s bungling of the street plowing. I lived in Oak Park where the snow was so deep we couldn’t get out the front door of our apartment building. Only gave me more of an incentive to get that MA degree ASAP and get the hell out of there!

I voted for Jane Byrne as did a majority of Chicagoans. Who would have thought the mishandling of parking and streets would determine the outcome of a mayoral election? Actually, it was not the bungling itself that doomed Bilandic but his failure to be honest with the public about what happened.
