Modern Russia is not the same as the Soviet Union: not a mortal ideological enemy, but it is still no sort of friend of the USA.

But the RW rationalization is that Hillary was such crooked evil threat to America that it justified any role that Russia played in keeping her out of office.

And there’s been a long and steady propaganda campaign by both Russians and ultra-conservative Americans and Christians to portray Russia as some “last best hope for heterosexual Western civilization” disregarding the fact that Putin plays on fears of Western civilization destroying Russian traditional values at home. Many Americans literally think Putin was a better leader than Obama.
