Well, I have no problem with drugs in the same class.

SSRI’s antidepressants:
Paxil, Prozac, Zoloft, etc
All significantly different.

Celexa is also an SSRI, so is Lexapro. Both made by the same company. That’s my issue. Chemically, they are almost the same darn thing.

Every once and a while you can run into an exception where there’s something noticeable.

From your personal example, enalapril and lisinopril are in the same class, and that is fine by me.

Another example are the second generation antipsychotics. Clozaril is the originator of that entire class. It’s the most effective one but the side effects are horrendous. So, new ones were made. Zyprexa, Seroquel, Risperdal, Abilify, etc. are all like Clozaril but different enough that there’s a noticeable difference between patients.

Rexulti is the new drug from the makers of Abilify. Abilify also grossed more money in the field of mental health than any drug before it, and it wasn’t even close. There’s no real difference between the two. If Abilify sucked balls for you, congrats, so will this for a whole lot more money. Insurance companies know this, which is why they don’t cover it well or at all.

With the Lyrica/Neurotin example, I’ll admit I don’t know about those two. I take anticonvulsants myself, but not those.
