OK: saw your #92, but didn’t look closely at it until I’d done my own off-the-cuff figuring (helped by a map, of course). I went at it slightly differently: I toted up the number of “red” states I felt unlikely to ever elect a Democrat (15: 30 Senators), and the number of “blue” states I felt unlikely to ever elect a GOPer (11: 22 Senators); which leaves, of course, the other 24 states as “maybes”.

So by my count, the “bedrock” Republican Senate probably is (as you posit) somewhere around 40-45 seats - and that in a blue-wave environment. Like I said: depressingly high.
