It’s more than that, I understand. There are grammatical differences too. Also “a slightly different vocabulary” often means the first thousand or so words — the ones everyone uses every day — are the ones that are different.
The Spanish i am learning is Mexican Spanish. Castilian Spanish, spoken in Spain, only has a few of the main words that are truly different, and, according to what I have read, I would be understood there.
