Here in Houston we have privately owned liquor stores but there are blue laws. Can’t buy anything but beer or wine on Sundays and that only after noon.

Same thing where I was from in TX. The first time I went to California I was totally bug-eyed at seeing hard liquor on convenience store shelves.

I don’t drink so I haven’t the slightest idea what the laws are in NJ/NY, but I don’t recall ever seeing hard liquor in grocery or convenience stores up here. I doubt they have any Sunday blue laws either.
