A Texas Senate committee will begin considering an anti-child hunger measure this week that, if passed, would be one of the strongest in the nation. The bill mandates that republican legislators be shown an video of poor children at least two hours before a vote.

Econimists also would be required to explain the grainy image, including a description of the child’s dimensions and, if applicable, the presence of a place to sleep and unpaid heating bills. If audible, the sound of the child asking why it’s so hard for daddy and mommy to buy food for him would have to be played for the legislator as well.

Supporters of the bill hope the extra steps persuade more legislators to stop whining about the problems of their wealthy donors for more than half a second fercrissakes
