I sometimes think that their only problem with communist regimes isn’t the authoritarianism on civil liberties but rather the economics. I mean given how many right wingers I see who admire Pinochet, I don’t think I am sounding hyperbolic in saying that.

And yet people get pissed at me, and I mean really pissed when I say capitalism is more comfortable with authoritarian political systems than with democracy. Not to say capitalism and democracy can’t have a good working relationship. Just that they’ll never be friends.

That belief cost me a good friendship. The end of which made me begin to realize how ‘conservatives’ are starting to lose it.
