re: #132 Dr Lizardo

I do wonder if Russia had anything substantial to do with the recent Catalonian independence matter? I know Catalan independence has been in issue for quite awhile, but I’m sure that the possibility of breaking up an EU member state of long standing would be far too tempting for the Russians…….

When I was stationed in Spain, I travelled to Barcelona occasionally. While I didn’t involve myself in Spanish politics (not my business or place), I overheard others talking about things.

Every time I was in Catalonia I would hear the occasional grumbling about independence or poorer parts of Spain were sucking on wealthy Catalonia’s tax money (hear the same kind of talk in the USA), but no serious effort to break away other than a few wingnut parties.

That was back in 92-94. I have not been back since, so I don’t know if grumbling turned into a real grass roots movement or an Astroturf movement.
