I can see why Trump would hate pets and have distain for pet owners. Pets are physically and emotionally needy, they require work to train properly and care for. You literally have to deal with their shit and over time they reflect who you are, at least to a degree. You have to at least have some small modicum of empathy to relate to and care for a pet and Trump at his core is a deeply abusive, toxic narcissist. So the idea that any animal could ever possibly enrich his life is anathema to his entire self image which is built on dominating the people around him. The love of a dog or cat would probably just enrage someone like Trump, because there’s no real victory in degrading the animal into a subservient position. From his perspective pets are, at best, zero calorie thralls.
