I am not a shutterbug, so I have never bought a camera in the digital age. But knowing Japan, I would be genuinely surprised if the shutter sound can be turned off for any camera sold for this market.

Maybe tomorrow on my way in to work I’ll duck into one of the big camera stores (Bic or Yodobashi) and ask.
