Maher’s the other side of the coin that Dennis Miller appears on, the “I’m the smartest guy in the room and that makes me funny” act that is really only a “smart” version of insult comedy. The idea that historical references or large words makes you “witty” rather than a ginormous asshole.

He also gets his religious history wrong. I’m critical of organized religion as the next guy but his documentary did a terrible job with that.
